Review By Tristan Fernie
Bangers have been mainstays of the UK scene for years now, cropping up supporting everyone from Chuck Ragan to Iron Chic, so it seems bizarre that Small Pleasures is the 3 piece's first 'proper' full length (not counting 2010's odds-and-sods collection Dude Trips). There's a curious world-weariness to the lyrics, counter-balancing the energetic pop-punk in a way that evokes Jawbreaker, or even Gunmoll's 'Board Of Rejection'. I can hear some Latterman and Leatherface, too, and not in the shameless rip-off sense that seems so popular with bands these days. Opening track 'Making Friends' rocks with a purpose and maturity the band previously only hinted at, achingingly personal lyrics about coming to terms with growing up ("I'm so terrified/that we'll all age and we'll all die) coupled with a satisfying crunch and chug that reminded me of Dillinger Four at their very best.
'Church Street In Ruins' is easily the best track here, bemoaning the kind of crass commercialisation ("more coffee shops than we could ever hope to drink in") and materialism ("I kind of find it offensive that everything's for sale") that's crept into Britain curteousy of America - backed by a triumphant repeated chorus of "the last thing I need is any more things". It's, for want of a better word, an absolute banger and seems set to join 'The Hard Way' and 'Excuses Be Damned' as a tune that'll ignite audiences into drunken singalongs. These are just two of ten absolutely excellent tracks, and I can easily see this ending up on my albums of the year.
With a US distributor in the form of Kiss Of Death Records, as well as appearances scheduled at this year's Fest in Gainesville, here's hoping that Bangers keep "making friends" (sorry) abroad, spreading the news of a burgeoning UK scene far and wide.

SHOWS: The State Lottery, Bangers, El Morgan, and Hangmen
So I should have probably posted about this sooner, but the amazing State Lottery are playing Swansea this evening, along with the spectacular Bangers, El Morgan and local surf dudes, Hangmen. Apparently, it's one of Trev's last ever shows in Swansea, so if the bands aren't enough to sway you, atleast go for old times sake. Trev has been pretty much been the backbone of the Swansea scene over the past 5 years, and it'll be sad to see him go! If you can't make it, be sure to go see Lemuria at Monkey Bar on 1st August!
Here's a video of The State Lottery playing my favourite song by them...
You can download both their full lengths from Ifyoumakeit.com

SHOWS: Iron Chic - Venue Change!
Unfortunately due to circumstances totally out of our control, we’ve had to move this from the Skatepark to Monkey, we’re as bummed as you are that we don’t get to have a sweet gig in the park and we’ll be playing ‘I wanna go skateboarding’ by Ssssnakes on repeat in between bands, but we just can’t do it.
However, the good new is:
1. We were 12 tickets off selling out before, Monkey is way bigger and you’ll be able to pay on the night now. It’ll be £6 on the door, but there are still £5 tickets available from Diverse Records in Newport, Exist Skateboards in Swansea, Derricks in Swansea, Gav or Zach Dividers, or the SWFU Online shop, if you wanna save yourself a quid:
http://swfu.bigcartel.com/product/iron-chic-banger-+-more-tickets
2. It was looking incredibly likely that the Skatepark would’ve been a dry venue. That’s right, NO BOOZE! So I’m sure lots of you will be happy to know that you’re more than welcome to get hammered at Monkey. Mine’s a Hoegaarden.*
We’ll be putting posters up at the Skatepark directing people to Monkey, but if you could report the event and let people know of the venue change that’d be awesome.
See you wednesday!
Trev
New venue address:
Monkey Cafe
13-14 Castle Street
Swansea
SA1 1JF
01792 480 822
It’s a little closer to the train station than the Skatepark and easy to get to from town. If you have any worries or any questions drop me a quick email and I’ll do my best to get back to you real quick - trevorcavell@gmail.com
*This was all written by Trev, mines a double vodka and lemonade. Peace out! x

SHOWS: Iron Chic, Dave House, Bangers, Dividers

Incase you didn't know because you're not a forum pro like I, Iron Chic are playing Swansea on May 11th. We're Co-"promoting" it with Swansea Collective at a Venue TBC, but it's likely to be at the skatepark which is due to open in April. If not, it's probably highly likely it'll be in Mozarts or something. It should be a killer show, Iron Chic released possibly my favourite record of 2010, so I'm totally excited that 1. they're playing Swansea 2. I'm part of putting on the show and 3. My band are playing. Here's what Trev had to say on the matter, because I can't be fucked to write up band bios myself...
Iron Chic
"Iron Chic are a decent band from Long Island New York" I think the new record cropped up in pretty much everyones Top 10 of 2010, this is their first time over to the UK, and it's gonna be fucking killer! Ex members of Latterman and Get Bent!
http://ironchic.bandcamp.com/
Dave House
Ex and current member of Clingfilm, Pacer, The Steal, Lucky Thirteen & The Final Five. One of the best dudes ever! Rare solo show after years of me bugging him!
http://www.facebook.com/iknowdavehouse
Bangers
NEW ALBUM should be out in time for this, three of the best guys you've ever met, it's been too long since they've played Swansea!
http://bangersbangers.bandcamp.com/
Dividers
Some people say they lack originality, I say GET BENT!

UNFUN#1: RVIVR
So we thought it would be cool to put on a show to benefit a charity of which we believe in and respect. The charity we have chosen is Macmillan Cancer Trust. I think everyone in the world knows someone who's been effected by Cancer at some point in their life, and this sucks! So why not have some fun and do a little something to help the cause, and help those suffering from the disease!
Also, All Ages Punk shows need to happen in Swansea, there's no denying it. Swansea needs more punk bands! Unfortunately, we can't do All Ages this time round. However, we can do a 16+ show, which I guess is one step closer to achieving our goal. Hopefully if this show is a success we'll do another one in a few months time, and hopefully we'll be able to make it all ages!
There will hopefully be cake stalls, raffles, and other such stuff to raise money too! If you have any fund raising idea's or would like to volunteer to help out it would be MUCH appreciated! We need help with flyering and postering too especially in the out of town area's and colleges and schools. Please email us if you can help out: dividersuk [at] hotmail.com
So far the following bands are playing:

RVIVR - http://rvivr.wordpress.com
RVIVR are an awesome fun Pop Punk from Olympia USA, featuring Matt Canino of Latterman and Shorebirds fame. They are great, and should have copies of their new record (released on Yo Yo Records of Germany) with them too! First of hopefully many times in the uk, Not to be missed!
BANGERS - http://www.myspace.com/bangersbangers
Gruff Pop Punk from Falmouth, fresh off their Euro tour with The Arteries.
WELL WISHER - http://www.myspace.com/wellwisher10
Brilliant "Party-mo" from Manchester, ex members of Hail Brethren.
A THOUSAND ARROWS - http://www.myspace.com/athousandarrowsuk
Spanking new Cardiff Post Hardcore Supergroup featuring ex members of Raging Speedhorn, Panel, Shaped By Fate, The Slowdance...

SHOWS: Good Luck

They formed in 2007, and in 2008 brought out the fantastic record "Into Lake Griffy" on the notorious No Idea Records. They have just uploaded a new demo onto the internet, which you can download by clicking here. It is great!

SHOWS: SWFU X-mas Show!

There's been a lot of difficulties with this show, what with Sigma being closed due to roof repair, but finally our friends at SWFU (South Wales Friends Union/South Wales Fuck U) have finalised a location for their x-mas show! The show is going to be going down at Sin City, Swansea on the 21st December and it should on all accounts be a way of a time.
Playing are local heroes The Arteries, aswell as The Computers, Bangers and Portraits. The show is apparently going to be on the floor of Sin City, rather than on that big fuck off stage, so awesomeness in inevitable. Get on down!

A day later we're having a house show at our house. Some Sort Of Threat, Cynics, Olive Anne
and Truly Kaput are playing, the order of the line up will be decided on the night. If you need the address, email me: gavinpryce87@hotmail.com, bring beers. Donations are super welcome too!

PICTURES: Break The Habit at Sigma, Swansea
So when Spraynard came to Swansea, they brought Brightons Break The Habit (The UK's best Latterman/Get Bent rip off band) with them, who turned out to be very good. They have a great split 12" with Bangers, and splits with Spraynard and Cutting Class in the works which you should keep on the look out for!
Here are some photos which Scott Neill took from the Show:
