DOWNLOADS: Pipedream - Shell EP

Well, what a load of shit I am. The Shell EP by Pipedream has been out for quite a few months now, and I haven’t even posted a download link for it. What a doofus!

So yeah, Shell in a word is great. It’s really hard for me to write about this EP without sounding like a proper biased prick. Not only did we put out this tape, but they’re also some of the best people and best friends too. But believe me when I say, Pipedream are without a doubt the best emo band in South Wales at the moment. Not that there is many emo bands in South Wales at the moment… in fact I can’t really count any! Regardless, Pipedream are without a doubt, in a league of their own. Following on from their demo this EP has documented how the band has matured in a year, and how much they have progressed in the right direction. They’ve gotten a little bit more experimental, as the instrumental interlude in the middle of the EP displays, but not in a pretentious way at all.

I am personally extremely proud to have been part of releasing this tape, and I am extremely proud of Pipedream for not only progressing in the best way possible, but also writing one of 2012’s best emo releases. It took them long enough to write, didn’t it?

DOWNLOADS: Vacation - LP

So I've resisted posting about this band for too long, but now I have the perfect excuse to break this silence! The Recording Label have finally posted the brand new Vacation record up on their site for free download! It's been streaming over there for a while, but now finally I can put these songs on my mp3 player to tie me over until I get a physical copy! Vacation are probably one of the hardest bands I've had to describe. They're noisy, they're weird, and fuck, they're awesome! They aren't a "hype" band, so I'm going to try to refrain from hyping them more than I already have in this post, so go download it, and if you like it buy it!

DOWNLOADS: Little Kingdoms - Home

This is our 100th post on WWSBD! And in celebration I give you this super awesome download. A little while ago, I posted about a great EP by a little band from Philadelphia called Little Kingdoms. Well, about 3 years after they recorded that EP, they're back with a 3 tracker called "Home". Last time I posted about this band, I mentioned that they bridge the gap between Owen and American Football (with a bit of Owls chucked in for good Kinsella-measure), and although "Homes" is most certainly infuenced by said bands, this release shows that Little Kingdoms are far from the Kinsella rip-off I almost described them as back then. The sound of this recording is chilled and pleasant, but certainly contains less of the "cute" factor that The Willow EP had. Little Kingdoms have matured exceptionally since the last EP, a recording that I'm fairly certain the members were fairly young in, and have finally developed a sound that they can call their own. What is even more exciting about this record is that we're going to be releasing it on tape format! More details on that soon, but for now, download and enjoy!

DOWNLOADS: Jerkstore - Language Barrier

So what do we have here? Possibly one of the most frantic releases I've ever heard, that's what! Hailing from down under, Jerkstore leave you with the feeling of your ears being stabbed, over and over again... In a good way, ofcourse! Language Barrier is a recording of sheer intensity. It's irate, it's accelerated, it's fucking angry! The songs are sharp and profound, the vocals are fierce and cutting, and clocking in at 15 minutes, this release most certainly doesn't out stay it's welcome! This was released by Birmingham's Eat A Book Records on Cassette, which you can still buy from them (or from our Distro), but for now download and enjoy!

DOWNLOADS: Watch Commander - Closer To Home

Watch Commander are a great new melodic punk rock band hailing from Worcester, England. My band were lucky enough to play with them on our recent tour and I was completely blown away by how enthusiastic and heartfelt their tunes were for a fairly new band. In a word, Watch Commander are great and if you enjoy the likes of Make Do And Mend and Hot Water Music they will be right up your street! "Closer To Home" showcases the bands ability to to write songs pulsing with both abrasiveness and melody, in a way that so many bands have tried and failed in recent years! This EP will be featured on a collection tape, consisting of everything the band has recorded to date, aswell as a few bonus tracks... more news on that soon, but for now download "Closer To Home" and enjoy!

DOWNLOADS: Forrest. - Demo 2011

Introducing the latest addition to the WWSBD family: Forrest! Forrest are a brand new pop punk band from Neath, South Wales playing catchy heartfelt tunes not too distant to the likes of Such Gold, Small Brown Bike, and even Jawbreaker at times. Forrest's demo is a great introduction to the band, brutally hitting you in the face with a wall of honest, passionate, youthful and raw punk rock tunes that collectively do exactly what a demo should do; it leaves you wanting more. Forrest are a breath of fresh air to the South Wales scene, and if this is a sign of what's to come we're in for a treat. This demo will be released VERY soon in tape format via What We Should Be Doing (More details soon!) but for now download it for free, and enjoy!

DOWNLOADS: Hell Money - I

Hell Money are a band from the Bridgend area of South Wales, consisting of some good friends of mine. I want to describe them as a Hardcore band, but I think they're so much more than that. Featuring ex members of bands such as A New Day, Losing Six Seconds, Young Prisoners, All Washed Up etc, Hell Money is a strong follow up to the members past efforts. Whether the song is slow or fast, the dual vocals and melodies add a great sense of honesty and urgency to this, in my opinion, flawless first recording and the fact the band are a three piece is unbelievable! There's so much going on in this first recording that it's hard for me to get my head around almost. In a word, this is great, and if this is a sample of what is to come, we're in for quite a treat.
This release is soon to be put out on tape format, limited to 30 copies. Hopefully we'll have some copies in our distro when they're available, but for now, download and enjoy for FREE!

DOWNLOADS: Pipedream - Demo 2011

A few months ago, there were hardly any decent new bands coming out of South Wales, and all the old decent ones were splitting up, and to be honest, I feared for the state of punk in South Wales. Then came Pipedream.

Pipedream are a new band from Cardiff, consisting of my longtime friend Josh BT (of Question The Mark... you all know him, right?). They play pop punk in the vein of bands like Title Fight and bands like that, combined with the sounds of 90's emo and little bit of Jawbreaker thrown in for good measure, which definitely separates them from other bands doing the same thing at the moment. To date, I believe they have only played one show, but hopefully now this demo is "out there" they'll be playing a whole bunch more!

Also, we're pretty excited to be releasing this Demo in tape format hopefully pretty soon. More news on that, when we know it, but for now, download, and enjoy!

DOWNLOADS: Dividers / Ten Speed Bicycle Split

So we got bored of sitting on the tracks for this split, and put them up for FREE DOWNLOAD! YEAH! Instead of sounding like a parrot and typing the SAME descriptions as I have for Dividers and Ten Speed Bicycle in the past on this site, I asked some friends to do it for me. Only Sean from Well Wisher actually responded (my friends SUCK). He said...

"dividers = pop-punk done the ifyoumakeit way with flashes of late-90s midwestmo and that chicago/lawrence arms sound. ten speed = frantic and youthful edgemo that blends braid, cap'n jazz, lifetime and latterman and manages to make it sound totally fresh and exciting"

Job done. Cheers Sean! The tape will be out very soon, but for now, feel free to spread this mediafire link about til it gets lost in the mist of the internets...

DOWNLOADS: 10-4 Eleanor - ...Too Bad

So Fest is over, and as if not attending wasn't bad enough, now a few weeks on we have people still talking about how awesome it was, and pictures are still popping up on Facebook. "Giles Bidder has been tagged in this really awesome picture of an awesome 3am generator show which Algernon Cadwallader played...." Blah Blah Blah. Truth be told it makes me fucking sick. Fuck Fest!
Yeah, So I'm once again bitter because this year I really wanted to attend (much like every year for the past few years), and was planning to. That was ofcourse before I lost my job and had to withdraw from pretty much every plan I had (aswell as Fest) that involved money. I know, I know, cry me a fucking river, right?
There are some bands that while listening to instantly remind me of Fest and the good times I could and would have been having, and 10-4 Eleanor are one of those bands. Musically, I think that the best way I can think of describing this band is like a cross between "Eternal Cowboy" Era Against Me, Jawbreaker, and the Lawrence Arms. I know what you're thinking, as if the world needs another "org-core" band, right? Well, untill I heard this record I would agree with you, but "...too bad" is just too good. I can definatley imagine watching this band, topless, spilling beer all over myself and chest bopping with my nearest and dearest buddy, and I don't give a shit how much of a cliche that makes me sound! 10-4 Eleanor are a fucking good time, so download this record, crack open a few brews and enjoy! If you like it, be sure to donate some dollar to Death To False Hope records!

DOWNLOADS: Fierce Brosnan - Basement Demo EP

So what do you get when you cross members from bands such as Yo Man Go and Static Radio? Answer: A band that sounds like a cross between Yo Man Go and Static Radio. Simples. That's probably a lazy description of the band, but it's exactly what I expected, it's and exactly what I got from this release, and I like it! The production is a little bit shitty, but hey, I would rather have shitty recordings than a lack in the sing-along department, and that's what this EP has a plenty (especially in "This Is Our Home", which is a personal favourite of mine). Technical in parts (but thankfully not over the top Strung Out-esque technical) and anthemic non-stop, this EP is just what you need if you thought Yo Man Go ended too soon. Just honest and heart felt Pop Punk. Fucking Ace.

DOWNLOADS: Break The Habit - Discography

So in a few weeks time our good friends in Break The Habit will be playing their last show in their home town of Brighton, so I guess that now would probably be a good time to "blog" everything they've recorded, right? A few months ago we were in talks about putting out a split tape between them and Solutions, so I personally am pretty devastated to hear of their disbanding. I have no idea what happened to the split, but I believe the songs they recorded for it were put on their US tour EP, and ofcourse on this discography, so thankfully they aren't lost in time! Regardless, it would have been really cool to put something out by them!
Break the Habit are (or were depending on when you're reading this) 4 awesome dudes who decided to "rip off" all their (and my) favourite bands, and start playing catchy and melodic tunes in the vein of bands like Latterman (where did you think they got their name from? Duh!) and Get Bent, but towards the end of their short life chucked in a bit of emo influence for good measure too. Their lyrical content in mainly based on the many cliches in the punk scene, and all it's good and bad points, but regardless of some negative content their songs are still uplifting and "posi", which in this day and age we need. It's pretty sad to think what Break The Habit could have been in a few years, but word on the street is that there's a new band in the pipeline, so it's not all over yet!
Whether you love or hate Break The Habit, you can't fault them. They've done what they've wanted to do and played what they wanted to play, self released their own records, toured the US and UK with Spraynard, and played with some of their favourite bands. Break The Habit are definitely one of the contenders for most DIY punk band in the UK today, and in a few weeks time, there will be another angel in punk rock heaven... (Yeap, I cringed when reading that sentence back too!)

DOWNLOADS: The Max Levine Ensemble - OK Smartypants

So The Max Levine Ensemble played in Mozarts a few weeks ago. I didn't attend because I couldn't find anywhere to crash (or rather, I was too afraid to ask someone if I could sleep over their house over fears of seeming "cheeky"), and never have I been more gutted to miss a show. Hell, I think the only other Swansea show I've missed in recent months was The Computers show (I was more gutted about missing Men than The Computers, but whatever), but who's competing? The Max Levine Ensemble are a great pop punk band from Washington, DC and feature the legend that is Spoonboy taking the lead. Not only do they play the type of Quirky and Unique Pop Punk that my heart desires, but they have also gained a shit tonne of respect for releasing a dis/response EP (which you can also download for free from Quote Unquote Records) aimed at Ben Weasil, after he called them "the worst band ever" on his radio show... yeah, fuck that guy. Despite what Weasil says, they aren't the worst band ever, just download "Ok Smartypants" and you'll see that for yourself!

DOWNLOADS: The Riot Before - So Long, The Lighthouse EP

Seeing as this band are playing Swansea soon, I figure now would be a good time to post about this EP and how fucking great it is. It was "released" (on Quote Unquote Records) back in 07, and their sound has definitely come along a lot since then. Regardless, I think this EP is still a great representation and introduction of the band if you haven't heard them already, and you should download it right away and sing along at the show (providing they play songs from this EP, which I very much hope they do!) Anyway, enough banter. The Riot Before are a punk rock band hailing from Richmond, Virginia. They kind of started out in a similar way to Against Me (who the Riot Before are often compared to) in sense of it was originally an acoustic project set up by front man Brett. Eventually he was approached by Fall of the West Records to put out a record, and although he'd recorded the demo's acoustic, Brett had no intention of The Riot Before being an acoustic project no longer, and recruited members to join the band before recording their debut album "Horseshoes and Hand Grenades" in 2006. Recorded a year on from that, this EP is a great follow-up to that record. They have since released a few more records inculding a split with Broadway calls, and have recently released "Rebellion" via Paper and Plastic. To say their sound has progressed since this EP would be an understatement, but still, this is the only Free "Legal" download on the web, so fuck it. If you like Against Me prior to their mainstream outputs, and The Replacements, download the fuck out of this. If you like it, be sure to buy their latest records or donate to the label of which this EP was released by CLICKING HERE! Or check them out at Sigma in November (with Ssssnakes and Caves) and buy a shirt or something!

DOWNLOADS: Weed Hounds - Demo

It's been a while since I did one of these, I've once again falling into the vacuum of slackness. Sorry.

I've been having a hard time trying to describe this band, but I'm gonna give it my best shot. Weed Hounds are a little bit shoegaze, a little bit indie, a little bit stoner (?)... they're just great, and if you like Dinosaur Jr or Swirlies you'll be all over this. Sadly, this demo tape is now out of print, but if you like this DO NOT HESITATE to buy their split with Dude Japan, and their Beach Bummed 7". I believe both are available from SNCL, so get on that! Both records are also available for free download.

DOWNLOADS: Facel Vega / Harbour - Split

It has recently occurred to me that I haven't posted any downloads of any South Wales bands... Ludicrous! This stops NOW. The first South Wales record to get the "treatment" is the Facel Vega and Harbour split. With arguably two of the best South Wales bands sharing a piece of wax, this is arguably the best split record to come out of South Wales. Facel Vega play urgent and noisey revolution summer style emo, and feature members of the late and great State Run and Twisted from Leeds (who I have posted about before). Harbour play stupidly fast, and stupidly tight melodic hardcore for fans of (being lazy here as always) Kid Dynamite and leatherface. This record was released about 2 years ago via State Run records, time flies! Download the record, and if you like it be sure to buy a copy from the State Run Records webstore!

DOWNLOADS: Hail Brethren - S/T

A few weeks ago, while in Manchester, my band were lucky enough to play with Well Wisher (Thanks Rosie!). Well Wisher are a pretty new emo band, forming from the ashes of the great and short lived Hail Brethren. Well Wisher were great, but while watching them, deep in the back of my head I was thinking about how great Hail Brethren were. I know, cool story bro. Hail Brethren played a style of emo that's been said to sound like "Forever and Counting" era Hot Water Music. I guess that isn't too bad a comparison, if a lazy one at that. Unfortunately, Hail Brethren broke up not long after this record was released, a crying shame to those of us who never got to see them live. Download this record from the link below, which is hosted on the ROIDH website, so I figure it's ok for me to post it here too. Regardless, if you like the sound of this please do pick up a copy from the label! Dead cheap too! Oh, and be sure to buy the Well Wisher 7" when it eventually comes out too. I've heard it, and it's brilliant!

DOWNLOADS: RVIVR - LP

Matt Canino's last band Shorebirds didn't really do much for me. In fairness though, it must be hard to live up the expectations when you've been in a band as great as Latterman. Luckily RVIVR aren't a let down. Okay, so lyrically they arent as thought out as Latterman, but regardless they are FUN FUN FUN! Something which every post Latterman band has been lacking (bar Iron Chic, maybe). Words are passed back and forth between Canino and female co-vocalist Erica, and they compliment eachother brilliantly. RVIVR could possibly be your favourite band.

They're touring the UK in October! Keep on the look out, as there might be a Swansea date, but ssshh! Yo-Yo Records will be putting out a brand new 5 track record in time for it, awesome! But until then download their S/T record below! If you like it, be sure to either donate or pick up a physical copy of the record from Rumbletowne Records.
